Congratulations AW
Crew on sending two boats to Nationals in Oak Ridge, Tennessee
this year!! Women's
Novice 8 and Women's Jr. Varsity 4!
And congratulations to the
whole AW Crew Team on a great Spring '08 season!
The Anthony Wayne School Crew Team is
in its 10th year. Crew is for anyone interested in:
- physical activity,
- a total
body workout,
- camaraderie,
- competition,
- teamwork, and
- being out on the water
Crew is a two-season club sport
that offers students the
opportunity to row on "the mighty Maumee River," and to compete at
regattas in many exciting destinations. Crew offers families many
opportunities to get involved in all aspects of this sport.
Rowing is
important for our community because high
school students learn self-discipline, patience, teamwork,
independence, punctuality, camaraderie, and physical
endurance through this sport.
Any student in Grades 9-12 is
eligible to participate. A swim test, an updated physical form on
file at the high school and permission slips are necessary for
participation.
Crew is split into separate
seasons; fall and spring. Each season averages 5-7 regattas where
teams compete against others of equal skill level. Travel out of
town and an overnight stay is generally required for the athletes.
Parents and families are encouraged to attend all regattas and join the
fun. With the split season of crew, participation in another sport
is possible. Some students are only able to participate in crew
for one season per year.
Rowers pay a club fee for each
season and a one time uniform fee. The fee covers all costs for
participation.
Rowers who plan on attending
college have access to scholarships provided by leading academic
institutions. The scholarships vary by institution, but rowers are
highly recruited nationwide.
